Do you want to be a part of something bigger than yourself, or join a community dedicated to supporting and advancing equity for women and girls? Then AAUW is the place for you
Why Join AAUW?
Membership is open to anyone holding an associate, bachelor, or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Students enrolled in a regionally accredited two- or four-year institution may become student affiliates. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or class
People join AAUW to find fellowship with like-minded women (and men) who not only have fun in our special interest groups, but also support AAUW’s mission of advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research
As an AAUW member, you’ll be proud to know you belong to a nationwide group of people who value education and equal rights who are contributing to a more promising future for all women and girls and who together provide a powerful voice for women and girls–a voice that cannot and will not be ignored.
The membership year extends from July 1st through June 30th and new members may join at any time.
Why Join the North Hills Pittsburgh Branch?
When you become a member of our local branch you are also joining the AAUW National organization as well as AAUW Pennsylvania. Our branch welcomes all who are passionate about the mission of AAUW and would like to help us support that mission.
The North Hills Pittsburgh Branch offers many leadership, social and educational activities for members. Our monthly meetings (September through May) present speakers from our community that address issues of civil rights, community action, women’s security and global issues. We volunteer through Community Action Projects and also sponsor occasional special public programs with guest speakers.
In addition to civic interest activities in our branch, there are also focus and social groups:
• Book groups, both evening and morning. They are very well attended.
• The morning bridge group meets on Thursdays.
• IPODS (In Place of Dinner Social) – about 40 people, with and without spouses.
• Great Decisions – an international affairs discussion group open to members as well as non-members.
• The Lunch Bunch-a once a month group lunches at a variety of restaurants around the city.
There is always the opportunity to start another group, if you have an idea. We love new ideas!
Members also receive a monthly branch newsletter, the PA State publication Keystoner (4 issues per year), and the National AAUW publication Outlook (is an award-winning quarterly national magazine available exclusively to AAUW members).
Our group is open to the public, so it’s a great opportunity to meet new people for interesting talks.
